Osteopathic Clinic
What does treatment involve?
Osteopathic treatment varies for every patient. The actual techniques are put together in the order and intensity that is considered appropriate by the practitioner. Techniques such as soft tissue massage may relax or stimulate muscles. Articulation is a passive movement, which involves gentle stretching of the tissue to improve joint mobility. Manual traction/stretching may also be used.
Osteopathic manipulation is a small precise movement applied to a joint. This often causes a ‘click’ or ‘popping’ sound as the joint surfaces are separated slightly. This response allows for a reduction of local muscle spasms and increases the range of movement within the joint. It also results in improving circulation and drainage in the surrounding area.
Osteopathic treatment is seldom painful and should always be gentle.
Patients generally find treatment pleasant.
